The Flavian Amphitheater, commonly known as the Roman Colosseum is one of the most visited sites in the world. The Colosseum was built to provide entertainment for the Ancient Romans. Some events that happened at the Colosseum were gladiator battles and even mock scaled sea battles. The emperor that ruled before the construction of the Colosseum was very self-centered. Emperor Vespasian worked on creating a building that the citizens could enjoy. Emperor Vespasian destroyed the old emperor’s palace and replaced it with a building that would let all citizens have fun. Emperor Vespasian died before the Colosseum could be opened. Emperor Titus was Emperor Vespasian’s son. The name Flavian Amphitheater came from Emperor Titus’ name. Titus’ name was General Titus Flavius Sabinus Vespasianus. Titus opened the Colosseum in 80 A.D. The Roman Colosseum is one of the longest lasting buildings in the world.
